In 2001 the Hi-Tech Coatings division purchased 2 new state-of-the-art dip and drain lines. These lines were installed at PFG de Mexico in Chihuahua and at our Warren, MI plant in 2001. Both lines are identical featuring a primer dip tank, prime cure oven, top coat dip tank and curing oven. In 2004 PFG purchased two more new Dip/Drain lines.

Also in 2001 Hi-Tech Coatings purchased Applied Tech Industries (ATI). ATI has two Autophoretic® plants which utilize a dip/drain process that chemically bonds the coating to the part uniformly. Autophoretic® coating will be discussed in its own section on this website.

In 2002 Hi-Tech Coatings designed, built, and installed a fifth dip/drain line for specific and delicate coating applications. This line utilizes magnets in lieu of racks.

Applications:

This type of coating is very cost effective since the transfer of the coating is in the high nineties percentile. This application is more labor intensive than dip/spinning but less labor intensive than spray coating.

The dip/drain process works very well on parts that can be completely submerged in the coating. This process also works well on parts that require only partial coating; wherein the coating level in the tanks can be adjusted up or down to coat only a portion of the part.

The dip/drain process is suitable for the following type of parts:

Parts too big to dip/spin.
Parts too fragile to dip/spin.
Parts which need to be reached in such a way so as to avoid air pockets.
Partial coating parts to avoid costly making and spray coating.

This type of coating is very cost effective because the line also cleans the parts. The transfer efficiency of the coating is in the high nineties percentile.
