Shot Peening/Shot Blasting

Shot Peening
Dating back to 2700 B.C. man has made metal objects stronger by means of mechanical prestressing. Hammering the metal to sharpen the edge or form it to a shield also made it tough.

This hammering process known today as Shot Peening has been refined to the art of directing the shot to a precise area. Used to reduce premature failure by improvements in fatigue strength. With results as great as (10 to 100 percent) improvement in fatigue strength it can mean as much as (100 to 1200) percent improvement in tool life. Bellevue Processing has available mechanical and air nozzle Shot Peening.

With Almen Strip testing and Lambda Research X-ray Defraction certification Bellevue Processing has a proven tract record with the Big Three as well as Allison, Eaton, Caterpillar, General Dynamic, Boeing, and Detroit Diesel.

Glass Bead Peening

A World class method used for cleaning and preparing parts for coating. One of Bellevue Processing’s most unique applications is the ability to process parts with several different grades of Glass Bead Media, using air nozzle table blasting or air nozzle tumble blasting.

Coarse grade: used for more aggressive cleaning.

Medium grade: used for general propose cleaning.

Fine grade: used for delicate parts.

New to some, but not to the Industry, the process known as Cold Working or Removing Stress riasers from grain structures (Glass Bead Peening). Surprised, even the Aerospace industry has written about the benefits of Glass Bead Peening. By reducing cyclical fatigue it is very effective for extending the life of Springs, Gears, and Fasteners.

Bellevue Processing is equipped for Glass Bead Peening. Almen Strip testing on the N scale is used to monitors the intensity of the Glass Bead Peening.
